The People of HITS

It wouldn't be HITS Ocala without Sandra Ruiz, who has attended the circuit practically every year since 1982. Each winter, the Culpepper, Va., trainer treks to Ocala with horses, students, and a can-do attitude.

"Show management does a great job here," Ruiz said. "The facilities are really nice. It's horse friendly with plenty of room to ride. Horses are at home here more than at most circuits. We are also more relaxed than at other circuits."

Ruiz, who arrived in Ocala Jan. 1 and stays onsite in her camper, brought five students this year Ð one hunter rider and four jumper riders.

"We love Ocala," she said. "When parents come here they have a good time. We have places to go and things to do, like Silver Springs or Cedar Key. And we like the restaurants. But overall, we love the horse atmosphere."
